"There was a Levite, a native of Cyprus, Joseph, to whom the apostles gave the name Barnabas (which means "son of encouragement") (Acts 4:36).
In the difficult times, darkness and discouragement wait at the threshold of our hearts to creep in and take possession of our lives. We suffer not so much because of difficult situation, but more so because we allow ourselves to be gloomy, disappointed, and discouraged. The problem with discouragement is that it is contagious. It is passed from one person to the other.
Although there is no vaccine for Coronavirus as yet, there is an antidote to discouragement and that is encouragement. Encouragement is the action of giving others support, confidence, or hope.
The apostles gave Joseph a new name "Barnabas" because they saw something very special in him. Aramaic word "Bar" means "son" and "nabiya" means "prophet" (whose function is to encourage). Thus because of his supportive and positive spirit, Barnabas received his beautiful name.
Can we also become sons and daughters of encouragement in these difficult times?
Good day and God bless us all! ππΌπ₯³✌πΌ
