Spiritual Spark πŸ”₯
"Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine" (Ps 33:18-19).
Today on the international women's day, I was looking for a reference of women in today's readings. The first reading deals with the call of Abraham; the second reading is about the instruction of Paul to his disciple Timothy and the gospel is about the transfiguration of Jesus. Moses and Elijah are on Jesus' sides, and Peter, James and John are the witnesses.
In all these readings we see only men and do not see a single woman. That is a sad reality of our religious texts. But if we go and visit any place of worship, we find the overwhelming presence of devout God-fearing and God-loving women.
I chose a quote from the responsorial Psalm, which is somewhat gender-neutral. However there too God is called "he" (masculine pronoun).
Unfortunately we don't find anything wrong in our heavily patriarchal religious and social structures!
Good day and God bless us all! πŸ™πŸΌπŸ‘©πŸ»
