Spiritual Spark πŸ”₯
"The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise" (Ps 51:17).
In today's first reading from Prophet Jonah we hear the story of the conversion of the large city of Nineveh after the preaching of Jonah. In the ancient times, cities were not heavily populated as today's cities. The great city of Nineveh had the population of 120,000 (Jonah 4:11).
The citizens of Nineveh were violent people. However the preaching of Jonah about the destruction of the city brought about change in their life style. They repented, gave up their wickedness and started living better lives.
Very often in the face of death, humans remember their God. Before death and sickness we are utterly helpless. We feel ourselves broken. This brokenness of spirit makes us humble and when we become humble, the new life in God begins.
Good day and God bless us all! πŸ™πŸΌ⚔️
